1st April 2010 - Watch Out For New Firmware 3.21!!!

Sony are releasing a new  firmware update version 3.21 on 1st April 2010 (some say this is deliberate in order to have people think it is April Fools Joke). Why??

This firmware is actually designed to remove the current ability to install a different operating system (like Linux) onto the console. This update will effect older consoles only, as the new PS slim does not have this capability in the first place. However, if you have an older console and like the idea of using it with a different operating system you will need to think carefully about installing this update.

Sony say this update will be offered as a choice - however if you do not install it, you will no longer have access to important  features, such as the PSN network for online gaming and as we know certain games or Blu-ray DVDs  require the most up-to-date firmware in order for them to work. Some choice!! Stealthy work Sony!!

If your console is one that is effected, you will be offered this choice on whether to install the update or not. The reason for the update is that Sony want to close a security hole that allows hackers to 'crack' the system on the console itself. This leads to all kinds of problems for Sony and it is a loophole they are now keen to close via this 'update'.

Unfortunately, it appears that this update will add nothing to the actual functionality of the console but rather is designed to take a feature away!
